Kerry Volunteer Centre has evolved from the success and impacts of Tralee Volunteer Bureau. At the time of the Bureau’s inauguration in 2003 there was no other Volunteer Centre operating in Munster. The pilot measure proved the need for such a centre and the consensus was that a Volunteer Bureau would yield significant benefits for both volunteer-involving groups and volunteers in the area. Since April 2005, the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs granted the Volunteer Centre financial assistance to evolve and expand its volunteering services and infrastructure. Kerry Volunteer Centres evolvement from a pioneering pilot project whilst facilitated by core funding was nevertheless responsive and perceptive to the needs of volunteering in Kerry. It is the countywide centre with groups throughout the county availing of its services and staff. The services offered by Kerry Volunteer Centre are user friendly, free, wide-ranging and specific to the needs of volunteers, voluntary organisations and volunteering.
As a Director of Volunteer Centres Ireland Kerry Volunteer Centre shares an overall responsibility for the development of Volunteering Nationally and Locally. Volunteer Centres Ireland (VCI) is the national organisation with responsibility for developing volunteering in Ireland both locally and nationally. VCI facilitates the national network of local volunteer centres. At present , 2010, Kerry Volunteer Centre is one of 22 member centres within the national network. We look forward to the day when there is a volunteer centre in every county in Ireland. The Volunteer Centre values its relationship with local, national and state agents and dynamics.,
